Royal relocation: Removal vans spotted at Kensington Palace – are Kate and William MOVING? | Royal | News

Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, has lived in Apartment 1A at London’s Kensington Palace with Prince William since 2011. They are raising their three children there – Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one. The 20-room, four-storey home is not your average London apartment, so royal watchers were surprised to see moving vans arrive.

So who’s on the move?

Don’t worry, the Cambriges haven’t decided to flee London!

It is their next-door neighbours, the Queen’s cousin Prince Richard and his Danish-born wife Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, who lived at Apartment 1, who are moving.

And they aren’t going far, just downsizing to a home around the corner.

They’ll now be living in the Old Stables, which is still within the grounds of Kensington Palace.

Ahead of the move, Richard and Birgitte reportedly had £400,000 worth of renovations done on the house.

The couple lived in Apartment 1, which is right next door to Kate and William, since 1972 and raised their children there.

But now, their four children – Alexander Windsor, Earl of Ulster, Lady Davina Windsor and Lady Rose Gilman – are all grown up and have moved out, so it’s time for the couple to downsize.

The home was originally thought to be earmarked for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry before they started a family, but they decided to move to Windsor instead.

The decision sparked rumours of a fallout between the Cambridges and the Sussexes, with the separation of their working and home lives adding fuel to the flames.

It was originally thought Meghan and Harry would stay close to Kate and William and continue working with them.

But over the months, they picked apart their joint ventures, moving to Windsor and starting fresh.

Before their wedding, Meghan and Harry had lived in Nottingham Cottage, which is where Kate and William lived before their wedding too.

The affectionately nicknamed ’Nott Cott’ is a special place for the brothers, as their late mother, Princess Diana, lived there after her divorce from their father, Prince Charles.

While William and Kate are seeing their neighbours reduce somewhat, there are still plenty of royals on the grounds to have over for tea.

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank live in the palace’s Ivy Cottage, which is just around the back from Harry and Meghan’s old home.

The Queen’s cousin Prince Edward also lives in an apartment at the palace with his wife Katharine, and Apartment 10 is home to the Prince and Princess of Kent.
