Brexit news: Nigel Farage claims party could be ‘unstoppable’ in snap election | UK | News

The leader of the Brexit Party claimed, together with the Conservatives, they could “destroy” the opposition and follow through with Brexit for the October 31 deadline. He said: “They, allied with us, would be unstoppable in the general election. “We could get Brexit, we could destroy Corbyn and we would be a free, independent nation.

“Yes, there may be on November 1 one or two bumps in the road, but free and proud we’d be able to get on with the rest of our lives.”

Mr Farage demanded the Prime Minister backed a “clean break” from the European Union, saying “no deal is the best deal”.

This has followed suggestions Boris Johnson may call a general election on October 14 should his no deal get blocked by Remain-backing MPs in Parliament.

The Remainer MPs are formulating a cross-party move to seize control of Commons business which could result in a general election.

Mr Farage claims, should there be such an election, the Brexit Party will be more than ready.

This was reinforced by Mr Farage as he waved signs branded with “I’m Ready” during speeches at the Brexit Party rally in Essex.

The former UKIP leader added there will be a “big attempt by Corbyn and others” to secure a Brexit extension.

He said: “Boris Johnson gave a press conference tonight in Downing Street where he said he doesn’t want to have a general election and he wants people in his party to toe the line.

Speaking on his LBC radio show he said: “Do I think it is acceptable that a general election could be held on the basis that he goes back to Brussels to get the withdrawal agreement? Well I absolutely don’t.

“Given there is less than 60 days to go to that right now, no deal is the best deal.”

Mr Farage told rally audiences he would be a “national hero” if he didn’t go for the Withdrawal Agreement.

He said: “Boris, you can’t win without us. Boris, if you go for the withdrawal agreement I’m afraid you will lose, but if you do the right thing and we support you you’ll be a national hero in the history of this nation.”

He previously signalled he was ready to put forward Brexit Party candidates in every seat if Mr Johnson were to avoid a no deal.

The success of the conservatives could rely on Mr Farage’s Brexit Party not splitting the Eurosceptic vote in key marginal seats, a poll claimed.

Outside Downing Street yesterday, Mr Johnson said he still “hoped” Conservative rebels would back down and not side with the Opposition.

He said: “But if they do they will plainly chop the legs out from under the UK position and make any negotiation absolutely impossible.

“I want everybody to know there are no circumstances in which I will ask Brussels to delay. We are leaving on the 31st of October. No ifs or buts

“We will not accept any attempt to go back on our promises or scrub that referendum and armed and fortified with that conviction I believe we will get a deal at that crucial summit in October, a deal that Parliament will certainly be able to scrutinise.”
