Real Madrid prepare sensational Gareth Bale swap deal for Man City star Raheem Sterling | Football | Sport

Real Madrid are preparing an offer of £70million plus Gareth Bale for Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling, according to reports.

Sky Sports News claim that Real representatives will watch Sterling turn out for England later this month in Euro 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro at Wembley and Kosovo in Pristina.

After scouting the 24-year-old in the flesh they will tighten up details before launching a formal bid.

The report goes on to state that Sterling’s representatives met with Real general director Jose Angel Sanchez in the summer regarding a transfer, which did not materialise.

City are said to value Sterling at around £150million following his development into one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe over the last three seasons.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is aware that Sterling’s valuation will only escalate in the next 12 months and wants to fasten up as thrifty a deal as he can.

The swap-plus-cash offer which is in the works is not thought to be of much interest to City manager Pep Guardiola, however.

Gareth Bale has been unable to fill the boots of Cristiano Ronaldo since the Portuguese star left Real for Juventus in the summer of 2018.

The Welshman has a fractured relationship with Real boss Zinedine Zidane, who tried to offload him in the summer, but is keen to stay in Madrid.

Despite still possessing match-winning qualities, Bale is widely considered to be on the wane and scored just eight league goals last season to Sterling’s 17.

Bale’s contract at the Bernabeu runs until June 2022, with Sterling’s expiring one year later.

Despite a stuttering start to the season Real are joint-top of La Liga with Barcelona, although only two points separate the top six.

The Spanish giants signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea in the summer but the Belgian has not fired as hoped so far, scoring one goal in six league appearances.

City, meanwhile, have not looked as dominant as previous years under Guardiola but Sterling remains a central force to their attacking play and has already bagged seven Premier League goals.

If Bale was to join City it would see him join an English club for the first time since becoming the most expensive player in the world when he joined Real from Tottenham for £85m in September 2013.

During his stint, Bale has helped the club to 13 major honours with the club, notably scoring a brace against Liverpool in the 2017/18 Champions League final.
