Neymar to Juventus: How Barcelona transfer from PSG was hijacked | Football | Sport

Juventus offered PSG a mammoth deal to try and tempt Neymar to move to Italy instead of returning to Spain.

The Serie A champions were in the hunt for the Brazil international despite his desire to return to Barcelona, with their rivals Real Madrid also interested in the 27-year-old.

Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has now revealed that an offer €100million [£90m] and Paulo Dybala was submitted to the French giants, but the bid was subsequently rejected.

Balague has also claimed that no Premier League club made an official inquiry, but Manchester United were interested when the forward was at Barcelona.

He told the BBC: ”Italian champions Juventus also entered the fray, offering 100m euros and forward Paulo Dybala – a bid that was also rejected by PSG.

“No Premier League club made an approach, although Manchester United had asked about the player when he was at Barcelona with a buyout clause of 190m euros [£172m].

“Neymar decided against the move.”

Although many Barcelona fans were desperate for the potential deal to go over the line, they shouldn’t expect further talks in January, as club chief Josep Maria Bartomeu revealed his stance.

When asked if Barca would try and sign Neymar during the winter transfer window, Bartomeu said: “No. Right now, no.”

Bartomeu has also admitted that the interest wasn’t planned, with Neymar’s desire to rejoin them alerting them to a possible deal.

“Barca had already planned their squad but the opportunity to sign Neymar was one that came up in the market,” he added.

“His signing was an extra; it wasn’t planned.

“Barca never offered our players. It was PSG who asked for then in the negotiations.”

“The deal didn’t go through because the club could not meet PSG’s demands.”
