Man Utd news: What Jose Mourinho did to Alexis Sanchez in front of entire dressing room | Football | Sport

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho brought up Alexis Sanchez’s big wages in front of the entire dressing room during his spell at Old Trafford, reports say.

Mourinho was the one who sanctioned the transfer of the Chile international back in January 2018.

He failed to coax the best from the player during his time at Manchester United, though, with Sanchez finding the net just four times under the Portuguese.

And in order to motivate the forward, The Athletic claim that Mourinho brought up the huge salary he earns at Old Trafford.

Mourinho supposedly did this in the hope of motivating Sanchez.

But the former United boss was never able to crack the code and coax the best from the 30-year-old.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has also struggled when it comes to helping Sanchez rediscover his mojo.

The Norwegian reportedly told of his intentions to jettison the Chile international as far back as May.

Sanchez had scored just one goal for United under Solskjaer but, now, a new challenge in Serie A awaits.

Many have questioned the logic of United’s decision to loan the forward to Inter Milan when they cannot sign a replacement.

And, while Solskjaer admits the Red Devils are short up top, he’s backing his current crop of forwards to deliver.

“As I said on the way back from tour, we were still looking for one replacement for Romelu if he went,” said Solskjaer.

“We are one down to be fair, but we didn’t just find the right one.

“We didn’t find the answer that we wanted. I’m still happy.

“We might be one down in the attacking line-up but we just didn’t get the right answers we wanted.”

The United boss also talked up Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, adding: “Yeah, if I did not think they had enough I would not just have them.

“We would have signed someone else or kept someone else. We believe in them definitely.

“I think both of them enjoy responsibility and enjoy the trust, so it’s give and take here. We trust you, but you’ve got to give us back.

“They have shown me they are ready for that.”
