Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Premier League admission that fans will hate | Football | Sport

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists winning titles are not his motivation.

Liverpool have never won the Premier League since its induction in 1992, though have finished second four times.

Last season they ended just one point behind champions Manchester City with Klopp’s side losing only once on their way to 97 points.

Reds fans are desperate to win the title having last won a league back in 1990. But Klopp says winning titles is not what drives him on to succeed.

“Titles are and were never my motivation,” Klopp said at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt.

“I want to win every game and make my players better day by day. And then we’ll see where that leads.

“We were very close last year. You lose only one game in the whole season, and it’s not enough, in the end, that was very bitter.

“But it is also clear that with my team much is possible. And yes, the title in the Premier League would be a great endorsement for many years of hard work.”

Liverpool top the table after four games having won all of their Premier League games this season.

They will look to extend that run at home to Newcastle on Saturday following the international break.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were involved in a minor bust-up in Liverpool’s last game with the Senagalese star disappointed that his team-mate did not pass the ball.

The pair made up after though and Anfield hero Robbie Fowler has slammed talks of Salah being greedy.

Fowler said: “I’ve honestly never heard such nonsense as the stuff that has surrounded this so-called spat between Mane and Salah.

“Everyone commenting and talking nonsense about being ‘greedy’ or destroying team spirit, have they never watched football before?

“Because you can’t be a top-class goalscorer without total belief you will score.

“I look at Salah’s record and it tells me he’s going to keep doing it. You don’t score that many goals without being what people say is selfish. But what the hell do people want?”
