Cristiano Ronaldo reveals whether he’s friends with Barcelona star Lionel Messi | Football | Sport

Cristiano Ronaldo declared that he wants to win “seven or eight” Ballon d’Or trophies for one reason – to beat Lionel Messi.

The Juventus star opened up on his long-term rivalry with Messi on Tuesday.

Ronaldo and Messi are currently tied on five Ballon d’Ors each, with Liverpool ace Virgil van Dijk tipped to win this year’s award.

For the past 15 years, the two have been undoubtedly the two best footballers in the world, and many believe them to be the two best in history.

Despite their dominance, Ronaldo revealed last month that he doesn’t have a close relationship with Messi.

He did, however, claim that he wants to go for a meal with the Argentine star.

Speaking to Piers Morgan in an interview for ITV, Ronaldo revealed that he is not friends with the maestro, but believes the Barcelona forward is making him a better player.

He also confirmed that Messi is the best player he has ever come up against.

“Messi is a fantastic guy,” he said.

“A fantastic player, he is in the history of football.

“But I think I have to have six, seven or eight, more above him, I think.

“What I said [about going for a meal], many people are surprised by.

“But my relationship with him is – we are not friends, but we share the stage for 15 years.

“I have good relationship with him, and I know that he pushes me to be the best I can be and I push him to be the best that he can be.

“Yes, for sure [he’s the best I’ve played against].”
