Cristiano Ronaldo fans all say the same thing about Lionel Messi | Football | Sport

Cristiano Ronaldo fans all took a dig at Lionel Messi after the Portuguese forward scored four more goals for his country.

The 34-year-old opened the scoring against Lithuania after just seven minutes in Vilnius.

The Juventus frontman scored from the spot in the first half on his 160th cap for the reigning European champions while he netted again after the hour mark.

He notched his hat-trick just four minutes after that and took his tally to four for the night on the 76th minute.

His quadruple takes him up to 93 goals overall for Portugal to move just 17 away from overtaking Iran’s Ali Daei as the top goalscorer of all time at international level.

Ronaldo’s goals also marked the 40th different international opponent against whom he has scored.

And Ronaldo has now scored 24 goals in Euro qualifiers for Portugal, breaking the record of Republic of Ireland legend Robbie Keane, whose best was 23.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid forward earned a swathe of support on social media in recognition of his continued exploits for his national team.

Ronaldo has long battled for supremacy with Barcelona talisman Messi, who has enjoyed less success on the international stage.

The Argentine is yet to win a major trophy with his country while Ronaldo has won the European Championships and the Nations League.

One fan simply said in reaction to his first goal: “GOAT.”

“90 International goals for Ronaldo. Your goat could never,” another wrote in a thinly-veiled jab at Messi.

A third wrote: “Ronaldo is the goat.”

One more posted: “Living legend.”

“Seriously A Mahn Who is Better both in Club & International Football,” said one more.

Another said in a slant at Barca icon Messi: “He proves his quality’s everywhere , not a sistem player.”

“LEGEND! GREATEST. OF. ALL. TIME,” one other wrote.

“Another day another record,” declared another.

Posting a list of the top international scorers of all time, one more said: “I mean Ronaldo is proven everywhere, where’s ur “GOAT” for his country? Don’t compare a club legend with a football legend please.”

Only three players have ever scored four goals in one competitive fixture for Portugal, with Ronaldo having now done so twice after Nuno Gomes and Eusebio.

The Nations League winners went on to win 5-1, with William Carvalho netting in injury time, and sit second in Group B behind Ukraine, having won three games and drawn two.

Eusebio (1966)

Nuno Gomes (2002)
