Bonfire night 2019: When is Bonfire night weekend – will fireworks be this weekend?

Guy Fawkes Night is held annually on November 5. The date is sometimes known as Bonfire Night and marks the anniversary of the discovery of the Catholic conspirators plot to blow up Parliament in London in 1605.

Many people light bonfires and set off fireworks to mark the occasion – but given Guy Fawkes Day falls on a Tuesday this year, what weekend will the celebrations be?

This year, most of the larger-scale firework displays will be taking place on the preceding Friday and Saturday.

So that’s November 2 and 3 – which will coincide with Day of the Dead celebrations.

The Cambourne Fireworks Display in Cambridgeshire will see early arrivals handed free mulled wine on entrance, with the gates opening at 6pm before the display at 7.30pm.

Those in Staffordshire can head to Tamworth’s Free Firework Extravaganza, which kicks off at 7pm with free entertainment from 5.30pm.

In Essex, you can join in the fun at Southend Seafront at 7.45pm.

Liverpool’s waterfront will play host to the River of Light this year, featuring 10 commissions from artists and organisations from across Europe.

A free fireworks display is taking place on Sunday at 6.30pm.

In Somerset, head to the Form Fireworks display at The Old Showfield from 7.30pm on Saturday.

Or in London, venture out to Victoria Park for a space-themed evening from 7pm on Saturday.

There’s also a few ticketed events in the capital.

Head to Ally Pally – which will also be hosting a German beer festival, cinema screenings, street food, an ice rink and music from Rob da Bank and Jazzie B – for £12.50.

Or south of the river, enjoy the display at Battersea Park from 6pm for £10.
